Lafayette Basketball Tournament Preview

Any fan of a college basketball team knows that the regular season is nice to watch, but it is all about winning your league tournament and earning a March Madness bid. That is the attitude of Lafayette fans as the men’s team heads into the Patriot League Tournament with the second worst seed in the bracket. Lafayette will play at Loyola Maryland, the 7th seed, on Tuesday, Feb. 28. The winner of that game will then play at Boston University on Thursday, March 2. The Leopards finished the season with a conference record of 5-13 and an overall record of 9-20. However, they finished 3-3 in their last 6 games and ended the season on a positive note with a win over Colgate 73-69 on Saturday afternoon. Although it is not impossible for Lafayette to win this tournament, like they did two years ago, the road will not be easy. First up is Loyola. Nick Lindner: Mentally Tough on and off the Court

Forty seconds remain in the 2015 Patriot League men’s basketball championship and Lafayette is up by one. Lafayette is hosting American University in Kirby Sports Center Arena. The stands are packed with Lafayette students, all geared up in white for the “whiteout” theme. The crowd has been rowdy all night long, but at this moment, they are quiet. All eyes are glued on Lafayette point guard, Nick Lindner, as he tries to put the game away for the Leopards. Lindner controls the ball on the left wing of the court. Using a screen from center Dan Trist, Lindner drives to the right side. Lindner drives right past the American help defender and finds the angle to get off his shot. With his eyes focused on the rim and while getting bumped by an American defender, Lindner scoops the ball softly off the backboard and through the net. The basket counts and the ref calls a foul on American. Lindner stares at the Lafayette student section as the crowd erupts. L...

The Clairemont Times: UCSD Barely Defeats Point Loma in an Early Season Local Game

Point Loma and UCSD squared off in a local regular season game on Tuesday, November 14 th at Golden Gymnasium in Point Loma. Coming into the game, UCSD (0-2) was trying to obtain its first win of the season, while Point Loma (2-2) was looking for a big win after losing a couple of early heart-breakers.   After last season’s 14-point loss to UCSD, Point Loma was looking for a different outcome in this year’s matchup. Although UCSD lost a lot of firepower from last year, most specifically graduating CCAA Player of the Year Adam Klie, the Lions were still going to have their hands full with an athletic and talented Tritons team. As was expected, UCSD controlled the first half of the game with a balanced scoring attack. The Tritons shot 55.2 percent from the field and set the pace of the game from the tip-off.
