Is Brock Holt Underappreciated?

Brock Holt made his much-anticipated debut on Sunday for the doubleheader against the Yankees.

Holt had not played a game since April 20th due to vertigo, and having him back is only a positive for the Red Sox.

During his first at-bat, the fans gave him a well-deserved ovation.

Holt told MLB.com that it was “Something I wasn’t expecting, but it made me feel good.”

Holt was 1-5 in both games combined, but just to have him back on the team is a great sight.

The third base position has been the biggest weakness for the Red Sox this season. Pablo Sandoval was a disaster, and the Red Sox were forced to use a combination of Devin Marrero and Tzu-Wei Lin. Although both of those players played well for the Red Sox, they were no Brock Holt.

Holt, who people often forget was an all-star in 2015, does everything for the Red Sox. He gives you quality at-bats and plays terrific defense wherever John Farrell decides to place him.

For whatever reason, his absence has not been discussed as often as you would think it would be this season.

Holt is everything that is right with professional sports. He is a small guy who is listed at 5 ft. 10, and he gets the most out of his skillset.

He works the count and is rarely an easy out. He does not strike out a ton and seems to always do the little things to help the team win.

He does not complain about playing time or playing different positions, and he only says the right things in the clubhouse.

Although he is not as talented as Pedroia, he is a similar type of gritty player that you love to root for as a fan.

The fans on Sunday gave Holt the ovation he deserves, and we all need to take a moment to appreciate what this player has done for the Red Sox in his young career.
